How is a wooden bowl made? Craftsmanship from our workshop

Holzschale aus Massivholz - Textur und Maserung aus der CreativeWoodShop Werkstatt

Every wooden bowl at CreativeWoodShop is unique – crafted from a single piece of solid wood, shaped and finished in our own workshop. But how exactly is such a bowl created? We'll take you through the process.

1. Wood Selection

It all begins with the right blank. We primarily work with oak and maple – two types of wood that produce particularly beautiful results due to their grain and density. Each plank is selected by hand: color, grain, and structure must be perfect.

2. Sawing and Sanding

The blank is cut to the desired size and shaped on the band saw. Then begins the elaborate sanding work – from coarse to superfine. This step determines the later feel of the bowl.

3. Finishing with Rubio Monocoat

The most important step: treatment with Rubio Monocoat. This plant-based hard wax oil protects the wood from the inside out while simultaneously imparting color. We mix the oils ourselves – hence, we create hues you won't find anywhere else.

4. The Result: a Unique Piece

No two pieces are alike. The natural grain, small knots, and individual oil blend make each bowl unique. This is not a flaw – it's the special quality of true craftsmanship.
